Adopt a Barn Cat

Picture
Got mice? Snakes? Voles? Looking for
eco-friendly pest control? We have just the thing for you!

What is a barn cat?
A feral (un-socialized or semi tame) cat.
Please note: CECS does not re-home cats that are suitable to be house pets.

What do CECS’s barn cats require from you?
  • A working barn or safe protective outbuildings.
  • Daily food and water, it is not true that barn cats are better mousers if not fed a regular diet.
  • Cat companionship, two are more cats are required.
  • Long-term medical treatment when necessary.
  • A $65 fee for cat and approved application.
  • Commitment to care for cats in an enclosure for 3-4 weeks during their acclimation period which includes cleaning litter box and supplying daily food and water.

 Benefits of owning barn cats:
  • Barn cats keep down the rodent population and are eco-friendly.
  • Adopting a barn cat saves the lives of cats that would otherwise be killed by animal control.  They are not adoptable pets.

What CECS provides:
  • Cats are spayed or neutered, rabies vaccinated, ear clipped (the universal sign a cat has been sterilized). Additional vaccinations or tests may be administered at your expense. Please discuss with a CECS representative.
  • A volunteer delivers and sets up cat enclosure for cats to live in for 3 to 4 weeks during their acclimation period.
  • Instructions on how to care for barn cats.
